It’s not every day that we sit and wonder what the sky god of the Mongolian grassland’s name is. (It’s Tengger, thank me later) Neither do we get true nomadic North Asian metal fall in our laps here at HBT-  we couldn’t exactly say no to doing piece on this interesting piece of band! After the release of four studio albums in Europe and United States, Tengger Cavalry has become known as one of the most unique, innovative and exciting metal bands in Asia.

Founded in 2009 by Nature Ganganbaigal in China, Tengger Cavalry blends overtone throat singing, Mongolian horse-head fiddle and other nomadic tradition of North Asia with metal.

While they certainly have the potential to create some heavy shit, this unique combination of heavy riffs complemented by the sounds of Mongolia, leaves me absolutely digging the aspect of it mostly sounding instrumental. With this we have fast paced melodic tracks like Hero and ultimately the overall heaviness of Blood Sacrifice Shaman that has us banging our heads to enjoyable diversity in a single song’s composition. Some of their other stuff has some growling lyrical singing which isn’t bad at all either.

Tengger Cavalry is an original metal band. A rarity. One of the few that leave me looking forward to what they’ll release next. Check out their new album out May 18th with album bundles available.
